Abstract

Abstract
The current study aims at identifying the psychometric properties of the tools used in the study, exploring the correlation between self-expression, anger and depressive automatic thoughts, investigating the ability of self-expression to predict anger and depressive automatic thoughts, and exploring differences attributed to gender (males/females) on self-expression, anger and depressive automatic thoughts. Sample of the study consisted of 357 university students (93 males/ 264 females) in Assuit colleges of Nursing, Arts and Education with age range 18-26 (M=20.01, SD= 1.20). Results of the study show that tools of the study are psychometrically valid and reliable on the Egyptian university setting. Anger total score and some of its dimensions (anger arousal, hostile outlook, and anger-in) correlated to depressive automatic thoughts and self-expression. Anger arousal and self –expression predicted depressive automatic thoughts. No statistically significant differences attributed to gender were found on self-expression, anger, depressive automatic thoughts.
