Turkish increased influence in Abbasid Caliphate (218-232H)

Abstract

The present research aims to highlight on reasons of Turkish increased influence in Abbasid Caliphate (218-232H) and its features and how they became decision makers in the state. Turkish leaders have occupied a supreme position at the Caliph Al-Mutassem Billah after their great victories, historians thought that Al-Mutassem was responsible for what happened to the caliphs after him and they accused him with political nearsightedness towards Turkish and approaching them from him, they described this period as anxiety one due to disturbance that affected the state represented by existence of new element (Turkish) who occupied notable position in the state, especially from military and political sides and they obtained the Caliph appreciation which motivated him to leave the traditional capital of his country and making a camp for them that later on became as a new capital. The research also discussed their position during epoch of Al-Watheq Billah and this increased influence had a significant effect regarding future of the Islamic state and these effects appeared, such as lost of caliphate influence and Turkish takeover on decision followed by division the Islamic state into independent ones.
