Abstract

Among the metalwork of the Coptic Museum, the researcher publishes, in the current study, a Cross from Upper Egypt dating to the Byzantine period that has not been published before in a complete scientific manner. All previous references have only mentioned either its data or gave its image, which the researcher highlighted how different and inconsistent with regard to the material, measurements, source and dating. He also worked on checking the data of the piece after it was inspected and examined personally, and put all of this in an illustrative table.
The researcher, for the first time, translated into Arabic the "Byzantine-Greek" inscriptions engraved on the four arms of the Cross, with commentary on its Greek names and putting the Cross in its three cultural and civilizational frameworks, as evidenced in the subtitle of the study («Latin» style, «Greek» inscription, from the site of a «Coptic» Church in the Temple of Luxor!).Finally, he ends the work with his results, and raised some questions and highlighting the Functional purpose of this Cross.
