The Pre-Islamic Battle of Dhū Qār: From History to Collective memory

Abstract

This article traces how Arabic literature, dating from the ancient Abbasid period 
to the current Saudi–Houthi War, has commemorated - 
 . 
conflicts between the Arabs and their rivals, the Persians, and they portray the 
pre-Islamic Arabs as a united people who triumphed over the Persians. The 
B S y ’ u tecting its identity has been developed as a
source of inspiration for Arabs, who are reconstructing a collective memory of 
the battle in order to serve a modern political agenda. In contemporary Arabic 
literature, is used to once again unite Arabs against a common enemy.
