Abstract

The current study aimed to identify the relationship between parental upbringing and the attitudes of the digital generation in Egyptian society, particularly with regard to education and work. It also aimed to identify the characteristics of this generation, its problems, its motivations for using technology, and parents' attitudes towards their use of such tools. The study was conducted at Cairo University, and a sample of 153 individuals from the Faculties of Arts, Education, Engineering, and Sciences was recruited using an electronic questionnaire. The results showed that the majority of the digital generation resides in urban areas, and that most of them are female. They also prefer the most popular technological means such as Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram., which provide them with direct communication. They also enjoy independence and privacy, preferring the internet to television. Their most prominent problems were their fear of the future and their inability to cope with rising costs and provide future housing. They also believe that work impacts their social status and supports their social relationships, and they believe that technology has contributed to increasing their job opportunities.
