Arabic Language in the Present Age: Challenges and Opportunities

Abstract

This research deals with the challenges facing the Arabic language in our present era, and also presents the opportunities available for Arabic to regain its status. As for the challenges, we see that Arabic in our era faces a number of challenges, the most important of which is the dominance of colloquial Arabic over classical Arabic in various aspects of life, and the decline in the level of teaching Arabic in our schools; due to the focus on teaching the language theoretically without paying attention to providing students with linguistic skills. As for the third challenge, it is represented by foreign languages ​​competing with Arabic, especially in digital content on the Internet, as Arabic content on the Internet represents a small percentage compared to other languages. This happens at a time when the number of Arabic speakers who are coming to use the Internet is increasing. On the other hand, Arabic has opportunities in this era that help it spread and regain its status. These opportunities are represented in: First: increasing Arabic content on the Internet; The second opportunity is represented in developing applications and programs to teach the Arabic language, and finally developing methods of teaching the Arabic language in our schools to provide students with linguistic skills, and instill pride in Arabic in their souls. This is achieved by paying attention to practicing the language in actual practice, both spoken and written, and integrating technology in teaching.
