Abstract

The articles of Al-Urwa Al-Wuthqa newspaper included content in the fields of faith, politics, education, society, and ethics, which made it a good representative of the reality that the Islamic nation lived in in the nineteenth century. It derived its approach from Islamic principles while linking it to the state of the nation in this period, and it rose for the sake of mobilizing the Islamic nation and unifying its word. To stand against British colonialism, and it had a great impact on the Islamic world, which prompted the British to fight it and then close it shortly after they issued it.
The research addresses takes the articles of Muhammad Abdo published in Al-Urwa Al-Wuthqa newspaper as its material. Where the expressive ability of the word used by the sender (Muhammad Abdo) is studied, not only his point of view; Also think about influencing the recipient and trying to change his conviction (particular Muslims and general Arabs), specific waiting in light of Martin and White's Evaluation Theory, which is considered one of the functional approaches in Halliday's Systemic Functional Linguistics. The research studies this expressive ability of the word from two aspects: Attitude, represented by the emotional words Affect, Judgment, Appreciation, and Graduation level. That is, the degree of words used in the articles.
