Abstract

Firstly, We will question the birth of the enigma and the hermeneutic complexity of the story's main characters: their roles and interchangeable relationships. Also we will analyze codes’ game through the system of characters by treating the ethical gap of the commander and the moral gap of the father. Then, we will study how the suspicion emerged in the diverse indexical world of the novel, starting from the contingent index, to the incongruous and displaced one, to the index subject and to inference. Finally, we will follow how he revealed the police enigma, the final revelation of the secret and how Vargas maintains the progressive pace of the elucidation of the enigma while maintaining his imposture until the last moment.
