Abstract

This paper examines the challenges and opportunities surrounding German language instruction in Egyptian state universities, particularly in relation to the President's initiative of integrating German into the curricula of engineering and medicine faculties. With a focus on innovative teacher training, the paper highlights the use of Dhoch3 as a crucial tool. The growing number of German language learners in Egypt and the government's push for integration have underscored the necessity of vocational language proficiency for students aspiring to academic or professional prospects in Germany. To address this, the paper introduces the "Dhoch3: Vocational-oriented German Language Instruction" module, which caters to the specific demands of professional language use and assists university professors in designing effective German language courses.
The objective of teacher training is to equip university educators with the skills needed to develop impactful and career-oriented instructional materials. The training program follows a structured eight-week format, combining a 40-hour in-person phase focused on theoretical foundations and practical exercises, with a 40-hour online self-learning phase that allows participants to deepen their knowledge and apply it practically. This paper emphasizes the significance and viability of the proposed teacher training program, emphasizing the importance of targeted, career-oriented German language instruction for Egyptian university students. The integration of Dhoch3 in the training program represents a pioneering step towards expanding students' professional horizons and facilitating their integration into the German job market.
