This research deals with the linguistic and non-linguistic elements in the play “The Sultan’s Game” by the playwright Fawzi Fahmy. The research is divided into an introduction that explains the reasons for choosing the research, its purpose, and its methodology, then a theoretical introduction that includes the definition of semiotics, the definition of the sign and its parts, and talk about the semiotics of theater between text and presentation. To highlight the importance of integrating text and presentation together to convey the idea to the audience with a theatrical direction, making use of décor, colors, lighting, and other non-linguistic signs. Then the research moves to the applied approach, where it initially presents a study of the characters and the definition of each character separately. After that comes a talk about the title, which is the main threshold of the theatrical text. As the research clarifies its relationship to the theatrical text, the research then analyzes the linguistic and non-linguistic signs of the passages chosen by the researcher. It highlights the most important linguistic signs in the text, such as repetition, metaphor, connections, interrogatives, and so on, followed by an analysis of the décor, clothing colors, and motor behaviors accompanying the text. The research also clarifies the difference between the text and the presentation, whether they are additions that have a specific meaning. The director skipped or deleted many dialogues, such as: the dialogue of the box owner and his wife about their lost daughter Asal, the Sultan’s dialogue with the slave girl Dagher, and the dialogue of the café customers. The text is long and the dialogue takes a philosophical and psychological approach. I think he made this deletion to avoid boring the audience. Finally comes the conclusion, which includes the most important findings of the research, such as: the author was able to employ the heritage psychologically and philosophically; To reach the desired idea regarding what is going on within Arab society in general and Egyptian society in particular. Such as: the idea of the ruler’s responsibility in the shadow of the subjects, the freedom of man’s mind and thought, and the necessity of justice.
