Abstract

Literature depicts life, society, and the universe in an artistic style, regardless of its language and culture. However, each language's literature has its own characteristics and diverse purposes in its journey through the ages. Arabic literature has a glorious history of its close relationship with Islam and Muslims, where Islamic literature originated and flourished. Islamic literature takes care of artistic expression according to Islamic perception and aims to spread the message and teachings of Islam. The features of this literature were manifested in Arabic literature since the pre-Islamic era. Then, it began its journey in the era of prophethood and developed with its genres in the Orthodox Caliphs through the contributions of litterateurs to Islamic issues such as faith, good deeds, Islamic conquests, etc. Umayyad literature was also adorned with the message of Islam, where the scholars dealt with enormous Islamic topics such as asceticism, piety, trust in Allah, belief in Gaib, and other Ethical issues. The issues of this literature were also demonstrated in Abbasid literature, and new religious purposes emerged in it, such as the etiquette of asceticism, divinity, mysticism, praise, lamentation, etc. Thus, Arabic Islamic literature gradually progressed to literary eras. The study aims to focus on the journey of Arabic Islamic literature in the Islamic and Abbasid eras and then deal with a comparative study between the literature of these two eras.
