Abstract

This critical study revolves around the novel (Black Taste, Black Smell) by the Yemeni writer Ali Al-Muqri, through which he addresses the issue of (identity fragmentation) in Yemeni society, where the topic of identity is one of the most important topics of the modern Yemeni novel. This is due to its study of the Yemeni’s relationship with other sects and segments of society with which he lives, and the topic of identity is connected and intertwined with many other topics that clearly represent the Yemeni personality,
The issue of (identity fragmentation) was presented through the novelist’s focus on several elements, including the character, which is the backbone of the novel, as it is the most realistic element of the narrative. Its opinions and beliefs have varied, and the ways of presenting them in the novel have also varied. Hence, there must be a place in which these things live. diverse characters
, the places were also diverse, but they were within the borders of Yemeni society and its governorates, so the fictional places were confined to the Yemeni environment between rural and urban areas, city and neighborhood (alley).
