Abstract

This study is concerned with the great intellectual battle that arose in the Early 20th Century by the article of Dr. Ismail Adham (1940) "Why I am an Atheist?" Which was published by The Imam magazine to express his happiness with atheism. Dr. Ahmed Zaki Abu Shadi (1955) replied with a search "Why I am a Believer?" which was published as an attachment to "Adaby" magazine, and was replayed by Mr. Mohamed Farid Wajdi (1954) with a philosophical study published on Al -Azhar magazine entitled "Why is he an atheist?", As replied by Sheikh Yusuf Al -Dajawi (1946) with a series of articles published in Al -Azhar magazine entitled "A Great Event That Cannot be Patient". Therefore, the study shows the semantic and formal text structures of discourse of faith and atheism; to reveal how Ismail Adham tried to spread his ideas through language, and how the Arab Muslim community received this discourse and read it, refuting his claims. The study depends on the Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), through the sociocognitive approach of Van Dijk
