Improving the quality of life and mitigating the negative effects of economic transformations " Impact Assessment Research of Decent Life Programs in the Egyptian Countryside"

Abstract

The current study aimed to achieve three main objectives: revealing the negative consequences that accompanied the economic transformations in the Egyptian village at the micro and macro levels during the new millennium, and shedding light on the effects of decent life programs and improving the quality of life in the Egyptian village in the social, economic and cultural fields, and identifyin the challenges that prevented the contribution of a decent life initiative to improving the quality of life in the countryside.
      The study relied on the theory of social quality and its basic assumptions.  This study belongs to impact assessment research, and relied on the case study method, and on the interview and observation guide tools in collecting data, and the number of cases was 18.  The field study was conducted in the village of Bahig, affiliated to the old city and center of Borg Al Arab, Alexandria Governorate.  The study had concluded a number of important results, including: The main strengths of the Decent Life Initiative lie in its ability to raise the standard of living in the Egyptian countryside, provide some job opportunities, develop schools, build new schools, and a service centers in the village.  Some weaknesses of the invitation are the lack of real and realistic development projects in the village.  The study also suggested some recommendations, including activating the role of popular participation in carrying out major development projects.  Paying attention to local institutions and activating their role and linking them with central administrations.
