Abstract

This article aims to analyze the persuasion strategies used in the political discourse of both Mubarak and Berlusconi, being the longest politicians to remain in power in their countries. The idea arose from a desire to discover the extent to which standardized strategies can be used to persuade the audience. The article follows the contrastive analytical approach, in which two languages of different origins are compared, and the linguistic means used in each of them are analyzed in the process of political communication.
The article analyzes two time periods for each politician, the first being the first political speech addressed to the people and the second representing the last speech before the resignation. My linguistic analysis is based on five main points: the introductory part describes the social and political framework that accompanies the conditions of the two leaders' appointment and resignation; the second part presents the relationship between politics and communication, followed by the third part, which deals with the connection between pragmatism and political discourse. Then the fourth point presents the linguistic and cultural techniques used in political discourses in general, followed by the fifth point, which deals with the applied analysis of persuasive strategies in the speeches of the two leaders through linguistic and cultural techniques, and then follows the conclusion in which he explained the most important results of the research.
