Abstract

Abstract:
This study is based on the thematic approach to reveal the main theme in The Orchards of Basra by Mansoura Ezzeldine, and the narrative techniques which she used to shape the structure of the novel. The study concluded that the dominant theme of the story is the " theme of sin", which the author discussed through it some of the principles of the Mu'tazila, It highlighted the ruling of the perpetrator of major sin in the doctrine of Al Mu'tazila and the principle of the denial of destiny , she put the persons in dramatic situations in which they chose their actions of their own volition according to their doctrine, which caused them to commit many major offences. the author relied in the formation of the narrative structure on several techniques: temporal and spatial parallelism and the links between them include (the idea of reincarnation of spirits - the technique of dream - manuscripts - repeating crimes), multiple narrators, multiple linguistic levels, technique of Intertextuality
The study concluded that, the novel is marked by narrative experimentation because the author created new imagined worlds in which she used various narrative techniques, as well as she used multiple levels of language in the expression
